Arts and Cultural Preservation

Higher institutions in Thailand normally have at least 5 missions to observe: 1) develop human capacity, 2) create innovations with research, 3) preserve local arts and cultures, 4) give educational services to society, and 5) ensure integrity and transparency of the institution’s administration. Chiang Rai Campus, as a part of University of Phayao, enthusiastically takes into account all of these 5 missions.

Chiang Rai Campus, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tipchan Wongchanta, Director, eagerly participated in the “Chiang Rai Flower and Arts Festival 2021” hosted by Chiang Rai Provincial Administrative Organization during December 18, 2021 – January 1, 2022. The festival took place at the Chiang Rai Beautiful Garden, by the enchanting Kok River, the main river of Chiang Rai Province. The theme of the festival was, “Light and Colors in the Wonderland.”

Many people and organizations in Chiang Rai Province joined the festival, and they helped make the festival colorful, memorable, meaningful, and exciting for the tourists that came from everywhere, both within and outside Chiang Rai Province. The festival displayed local arts and paintings, educational exhibitions by universities located in Chiang Rai Province, local food market, cultural shows by hill tribes and minorities in Chiang Rai Province, light & sound show in the Kok River, and many other fun-filled activities.

Chiang Rai Campus took part in the education zone. The booth of Chiang Rai was found in the section called “The Colorful Orchid Garden.” Displayed in the booth were information of education and degrees offered at University of Phayao and at Chiang Rai Campus, UP products from University of Phayao Innovation and Technology Transfer Institute (UPITI), and merchandises from UP Souvenir Shop. The booth received a number of visitors who were interested in the quality education and products/merchandises made from research, innovations, and collaboration between University of Phayao and local communities.
