Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Matter Most
While the world we are living in getting more and more closely connected, it also generates a multitude of conflicts that impede such living styles and healthy environment that we wish to have. This is largely due to the fact that people are different in their beliefs, values, and actions, to name just a few. Problems and conflicts tend to arise more when different people bring their differences to the intertwined, interconnected, and “confusing” world of the present time. Human beings, however, are not created to live a miserable life. Rather, all sensible people, regardless of our differences in creeds and actions, want to have a happy, peaceful, and meaningful living. In this regards, the present and interconnected world of this era simply calls for our efforts, experiences, and wisdom to collectively find creative ways to live together with more peace and with least contradictions. And that is why the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) do matter, and they require our attention the most.
On May 19-20, 2022, Chiang Rai Campus had an honor to receive 75 students and faculty members from School of Dentistry, University of Phayao, who came to conduct workshops on integrating SDGs into the School’s strategic plan and action plan. Focused in the workshops is balancing the three areas of development: 1) economic, 2) societal, and 3) environmental. The workshops were, in effect, meant to ensure that faculty members and students understand how to apply the 17 SDGs to their School’s projects and how to live with a keen sense of balance in economic, societal, and environmental developments.
The group from School of Dentistry stayed at UP Rim Kok Residence, Chiang Rai Campus, during the two-day workshops. This allowed Chiang Rai Campus to serve the visitors with a good and convenient place to stay. More importantly, the staff members of Chiang Rai Campus had a good opportunity to learn how to incorporate SDGs into their strategic plan and action plan as well.
