Network of Students with Disabilities on CRC
Human beings are commonly known, at least in the Thai context, as “social animals.” This is because one can hardly live alone and be happy. Having someone to talk to and/or to share feelings or even dreams is a blessing. The world is comparatively like a paradise for those who have others to support, particularly in times of need. Interestingly, this very same paradise is much more beautiful for those with disabilities to have friends who care, support, and help them in such a way that they alone cannot do by themselves. Having a network of people with the same interests or with the same needs is surely in many people’s wish lists.
Chiang Rai Campus had a good opportunity to receive a group of 105 people, consisting of administrators, faculty members, and students with disabilities from 16 institutions in the northern region of Thailand in The 3rd Network of Students with Disabilities in Higher Education Institutions, during June 22-24, 2022. The objectives are to allow the students to meet and make new friends from other institutions, to sharpen the students’ working skills for their future careers, and to ensure that students with disabilities can have a good and happy life in society like other people.
Dr. Wuthichai Chairinkam, Vice President for Quality Students, University of Phayao, presided over the opening ceremony while Ms. Jaruwan Poshyananda, Assistant to the President, University of Phayo greeted the students with a caring heart. She wished to see how to turn the concepts of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the benefit of students with disabilities, particularly in terms of equal access to quality education, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, and peace and justice.
As a host, Associate Professor Dr. Tipchan Wongchanta, Director, welcomed the students and all participants to Chiang Rai Campus where they could use modern facilities in the meeting rooms and enjoy their stay at the beautiful UP Rim Kok Residence during their 4-day meeting in Chiang Rai Province. Dr. Wongchanta also introduced the majors offered at Chiang Rai Campus, for their future study plans.
