Community Partnership for Safety
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities asks for our collective efforts to “make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.” In arrive at that end, Chiang Rai Campus, University of Phayao, partnered with the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division of the Chiang Rai Provincial Administrative Organization to annually train disaster prevention and mitigation officers from various provinces in the northern part of Thailand so that they have ample and better knowledge and skills to deal with potentially disastrous calamities in their respective communities.
This year, the training took place at Chiang Rai Campus during June 27-28, with forty disaster prevention and mitigation officers participated. The opening ceremony was presided over by Ms. Atitatorn Wanchaithanawong, President of Provincial Administrative Organization, Chiang Rai Province. The training program included water rescue and rescue diving. All participants stayed at UP Rim Kok, CRC Hotel, throughout the training period. This event apparently sheds light on the fact that when SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 17 Partnership for the Goal work together and in a collaborative manner, they simply yield a better and more fruitful result than each works on its own. By the same token, Chiang Rai Campus has better fulfilled its mission as a quality higher education institution that people in the community can trust and look up to.
