Preservation of Thai Arts and Cultures
Globalization has brought tremendous changes to local ways of living. While it has flattened the world and made people from around the globe closely connected, globalization has also created identity crisis to many nations. To maintain national pride and identity, Thai higher education institutions have been given one important mission to accomplish: to find ways to preserve local arts and cultures according to their own contexts.
On December 17, 2022, Chiang Rai Campus, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tipchan Wongchanta, Director, organized a “Thai Fabric Preservation Project in Honor of the Queen” on campus with two objectives: 1) to join Thailand’s “Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother’s 90th Birthday Anniversary, 12th August 2022” (January – December 2022) and 2) to raise awareness among faculty, staff, and students in promoting Thai fabric as cultural heritage.
The event witnessed a talk on how Chiang Rai Campus has supported the Ban Sob Kham’s local cloth weaving business (by Mr. Supote Manasukh, Head of Administration), costume contest among students, and finally a good lunch among all participants.
